Our Dental Implant Procedure
One source for the entire procedure
Once you have completed your complimentary consultation and decided to get dental implant treatment, Dr. Palani follows a series of steps to create an exact treatment plan for you.
Your first step is a comprehensive oral exam followed by a full set of digital x-rays. As needed, you will also get a 3D x-ray for a full 360º view of your mouth and jaw. Using this information and your medical and dental history, Dr. Palani is now ready to plan your treatment.
He uses special 3D software to plan the treatment ahead of time: the exact placement, angle and size of implant. This limits the amount of surgery needed on the actual day, far less cutting and far less post-operative pain. With the new technology of implant placement, dental implant placement has gone from a fairly extensive surgery to a comfortable and relatively quick procedure.
Bone grafting & Sinus lift
In some cases, there is insufficient bone to allow a dental implant to be placed. In these cases, Dr. Palani performs bone grafting, a process whereby bone is placed on the gum to augment its height. The bone added is absorbed into the body causing new original bone to be generated.
In other cases, the volume of the sinus cavity has increased, again making for insufficient bone to place an implant. In a sinus lift, also known as sinus augmentation, bone is added between your jaw and the sinuses on either side of your nose. To make room for the bone the sinus membrane has to be moved upward.
In the case of needing either bone grafting or a sinus lift, these procedures are completed two to three months before the implant placement, when the new bone has fully integrated.
Bone loss is generally caused by missing teeth as there is no root to stabilize the bone.
Day of surgery
Dental implant placement can be a very fast procedure. If no bone grafting is needed, teeth can be extracted and the implant placed in the same visit. If you are getting one implant, Dr. Palani can have you out of the office in one hour.
Immediate new teeth
Whether you have missing teeth or need teeth extractions, Dr. Palani will provide you with temporary teeth throughout the whole procedure. Generally, there is a four to six month wait while the implant integrates fully with your bone, at which point your permanent crowns are placed.
Dr. Palani and his staff follow up with you regularly to ensure everything is going to plan and that you are fully comfortable.
With a greater than 97% success rate, you will soon be enjoying your new teeth and smile! Patients report that they can’t tell the difference between natural teeth and their new implant teeth. Chewing, cleaning and all other aspects are the same.
